Data Sources & Cadence
Every record on GovBizOpps traces back to a public federal source. We don't synthesize. We don't speculate. We normalize agency codes, link related solicitations across modifications, and resolve recipient parent–subsidiary relationships using the SAM.gov UEI graph.
SAM.gov public search — hourly polling
Endpoint: https://sam.gov/api/prod/sgs/v1/search/
Cadence: 1 call per hour, 24×7. This is the same endpoint that powers SAM.gov's own search UI — public, key-less, and safe to poll often. Detection is continuous so we never miss a posting; notifications are gated to business-hours (8am-5pm ET weekdays + 9pm ET) so subscribers don't get pinged overnight.
Filters applied at the endpoint: NAICS 541511, 541512, 541519, 518210 (core IT) plus 541330, 541611, 541618 (adjacent services that still show up in VA IT contracting). VA agency hierarchy is verified client-side. IT PSC prefixes (D, 70, 7G, 7H, 7J) are surfaced on the Recent feed.
SAM.gov v2 — on-demand enrichment
Endpoint: https://api.sam.gov/prod/opportunities/v2/search
Cadence: on demand only. The v2 API is rate-limited (10 calls/day on the public key tier), so we use it only for per-record detail enrichment — full descriptions, attachments index, contracting-office contact info. Triggered manually or by an analyst follow-up; never on the hourly path.
USAspending.gov API
Endpoint: https://api.usaspending.gov/
Cadence: nightly full sync. No authentication required. Covers federal awards back to FY09. We filter by Agency 036 (VA) and the IT NAICS set above. This is the source for the historical spend dashboards, vehicle pages, and recipient detail pages.
FPDS-NG ATOM Feed
Endpoint: https://www.fpds.gov/ezsearch/
Cadence: daily reconciliation. No authentication. Contract action level detail — we use it to resolve modifications, set-aside categories, and discrepancies that USAspending sometimes carries.
SAM.gov Entity API + GSA eLibrary
Used for enrichment: UEI to parent-company resolution, schedule-holder lookups, and socio-economic certification records.
What we don't store
- Personal information beyond what's in public federal records (e.g., a Contracting Officer's published name is on file; their personal contact is not).
- Document contents. We index SOW PDFs by metadata only; the documents themselves stay on SAM.gov.
- Any data more than 17 years old (the limit of USAspending coverage).
